Borrowing Privileges
Any resident of Amherst County may apply for a free library card. To apply for a library card, a photo identification must be shown. A parent or guardian must sign the application for minors (under age 18). People working for educational facilities in Amherst County may also obtain 1 year extended-use cards free of charge.
Non-Amherst County residents may also apply for a card for free. Temporary Amherst County residents may apply for a card if proof of temporary residence is provided along with verification of permanent residency.
Books, audiobooks, and magazines may be checked out for three weeks. New books check out for two weeks. DVDs/Blu-rays may be checked out for one week.
All library materials except DVDs/Blu-rays may be renewed up to two times in person, by telephone, or on the library’s website unless a hold has been placed on the item. Limits may be temporarily placed on items when demand is high.
Library users are responsible for all items checked out on their cards. The card must be presented to check out materials. Replacement cards are free for the first replacement. Second and all subsequent replacements cost $5.00.
Extended Use (Overdue) Fees
An extended use fee of 10 cents per day per item is charged for all items except DVDs/Blu-rays and Interlibrary Loans. DVD/Blu-ray fees are $1.00 per day. Fines on Interlibrary Loan materials are 50 cents per day.
In order for all patrons to have ready access to library materials, accounts will be blocked at $5.00 of fees or charges until paid in full. The library makes use of all legal means available to recover lost materials and fees.
